Yesterday When I Was Young – Roy Clark

The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away
And only I am left on stage to end the play

It seems the love I’ve known
Has always been the most destructive kind
I guess that’s why now
I feel so old
Before my time

Yesterday, when I was young
The taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue
I teased at life as if it were a foolish game
The way the evening breeze may tease a candle flame
The thousand dreams I dreamed, the splendid things I planned
I always built to last on weak and shifting sand
I lived by night and shunned the naked light of the day
And only now I see how the years ran away

Yesterday, when I was young
So many happy songs were waiting to be sung
So many wild pleasures lay in store for me
And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see
I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out
I never stopped to think what life was all about
And every conversation I can now recall
Concerned itself with me and nothing else at all

Yesterday the moon was blue
And every crazy day brought something new to do
I used my magic age as if it were a wand
And never saw the waste and emptiness beyond
The game of love I played with arrogance and pride
And every flame I lit too quickly, quickly died
The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away
And only I am left on stage to end the play

There are so many songs in me that won’t be sung
I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue
The time has come for me to pay for
Yesterday, when I was young

Baby, Now That I’ve Found You 中那段触动我内心的旋律

Now That I’ve Found You When you say nothing at all ,不过今天要谈的是第一首歌。

Baby, Now That I’ve Found You的时候没有很惊艳的感觉,简单直白的陈述和没有很特色的旋律。

500 Miles

其实本来想,应该专注写关于乡村音乐的东西,但是最近看的纪录片里,记不得是willie还是哪位artist说:do not put fences between different of music.

If you miss the train I’m on, you will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

Lord, I’m one, Lord, I’m two, Lord, I’m three, Lord, I’m four

Lord, I’m five hundred miles from my home

Five hundred miles, five hundred miles

Five hundred miles, five hundred miles

Lord, I’m five hundred miles from my home

Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name

Lord, I can’t go a-home this a-way

This a-away, this a-way, this a-way, this a-way

Lord, I can’t go a-home this a-way

If you miss the train I’m on, you will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

My original idea is that the blog all about Country Music, however, one of the artists from the documentary named Country Music by Ken Burns said do not put fences between different music, another reason I believe is that Folk and Country Music is the closest music genes.

I watched the movie Inside Llewyn Davis recently and so moved by the 3 singers who sang the song in it. My mind has gone far far away, home or somewhere, although, like the audiences who just sat there listening to the music.

There were tons of musicians who remastered the song, such as The Kingston Trio, Elvis Presley, Rosanne Cash. It is the right choice to invite Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan and Stark Sands reperformed it, but speak frankly, the write of the song is the one who attached the soul into the song, no matter which one sings it.

I was playing the song repeatedly when I was writing the blog, I just cannot stop it.

Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone

There’s a lighthouse in the harbor
Giving guidance with its light
But I had no one to return to
As I wandered through the night

From the first time that I saw you
Standing silent by the shore
I knew my search was over
And I would look for love no more

Deep in the waters of love I am falling
Sinking like a stone
Deep in my heart I can hear love callin’
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone

There’s a ship on the horizon
Makin’ its way against the wind
From the place where I stand watching
I swear my ship is coming in.

Deep in the waters of love I am falling
Sinking like a stone
Deep in my heart I can hear love callin’
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone

Sinking like a stone

Deep in my heart I can hear love callin’
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone
Goin’ once, goin’ twice, goin gone
